Chicago Speaks, Chicago Listens OLD

A project led by Civic Orchestra Fellow and Cellist Philip Bergman, “Chicago Speaks, Chicago Listens" is a free event that pairs spoken remarks from Chicago’s community leaders with music performed by musicians of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This season’s featured speakers come from nonprofit organizations that focus on women’s rights and gender justice. As a reflection on our speakers’ remarks Civic musicians will perform music written by women composers with Chicago connections.

Program:

Led by master of ceremonies Ellie Kirk, Development Director of 5th Wave Collective

Spoken remarks by Angela Hicks, Executive Director of Margaret's Village; Sheerine Alemzadeh, co-founder and co-executive director of Healing to Action; and A.J. Barks, Development Director of Chicago Women’s Health Center

Music will include:

Florence Price, Sketches in Sepia for Harp

Liza Sobel, Bridges for Flute, Clarinet, Violin, and Cello, co-commissioned by the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Ensemble Dal Niente

Performers:

Alexandria Hoffman, flute Nico Chona, clarinet Eleanor Kirk, harp Hannah Christiansen, violin Najette Abouelhadi, cello

Health and Safety Protocol:

All adults and children over the age of 2 must wear a mask during the event.

Individuals from the same household may sit in close proximity, but all attendees are asked to maintain a distance of 6 feet from individuals/groups from other households, including avoiding physical contact with other attendees.

Any individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, who are awaiting results of a test for COVID-19, who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or who are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 are asked to stay at home.

There are restrooms on-site in the Cultural Center. Restrooms will be open and available, but attendees should anticipate limited restroom access.

Children of all ages are welcome, but children over 2-years-old are asked to wear masks.

There is free street parking available adjacent to the park.

Capacity for this event will be 200 people. All who plan to attend the event are requested to register in advance. Attendance is first come, first served.
